#Project IIRIS _ a 'new dawn' for project insurance

" ..... It’s been eight 8️⃣ years ……. ten 🔟 months ……. and one 1️⃣ day ……..
………. since the tragic fire 🔥at Grenfell Tower and, my decision to ‘retire’ from professional practice (as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor), followed sixteen days later.
The events that took place just over 106months ago, and resulted in 72 people losing their lives, forced me to pivot into Digital Construction, using information management to develop a ‘use-case’ for Digital Twins in Financial Services.
Today (15.04.26) is a historic milestone for this ‘data-driven’ solution that ‘principally’ is designed to do two things (1) help prevent another Grenfell tragedy and (2) ensure that the Golden Thread becomes a ‘digital’ asset in its own right - one that the Building Safety Regulator can rely upon, in perpetuity.
My journey began with an invite from an industry ally in July 2019, and concluded in a quiet referral to support colleagues over at the University of Cambridge / Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB); it was there that I was elected to co-author both the #DigitalTwinToolkit and #GeminiPapers, which was successfully completed in March 2022.
That 32month #pro-bono effort helped to gain the visibility of my industry peers, including Dr Anne Kemp OBE. I was then invited, by Anne to become a nima #Ambassador (October 2024) and pitched my ‘use-case’ live (with Anne) supported by John T Roberts at the nima ‘virtual’ Conference (November 2024).
I finally, presented my ‘Business Case’ (April 2025), (re)presented and framed my thoughts as an IMI ‘technical’ project at #DCW2025 going head to head with a lawyer / Simon Lewis (June 2025) and (un)officially mobilised what is now referred to as #ProjectIIRIS in October 2025.
During that time I’ve also set up the Digital Twin Skills Academy to help #upskill, #coach and train the sector to deliver the Golden Thread; particularly during #Gateway3 and, this is where #YoungPeople have a critical role to play.
Betting on myself - has simply become a way of life - and choosing to “build it and they will come” just made sense; I couldn’t wait, I refused to - and, now we are here almost nine 9️⃣ years later, as I/we announce the IIRIS #IWG via the nima website (link below); supported by some of the greatest minds in #IM across the world.
Admittedly, (and with zero funding!) the journey to date has been painstakingly difficult; emotionally, physically and financially, but extremely humbling too.
God willing, I’m sending thoughts and prayers to the many survivors and families of #Grenfell - all of whom, who have inspired me (personally), to embark upon and deliver this important work .….
Thank you also, to all of my ‘quiet & loud’ supporters, both closer to home and afar (overseas) - far too many names to mention here - but ALL valued and appreciated to the nth degree.
