New ‘CEO’ to focus on #YoungPeople entering Digital Construction

The UK construction industry is (still) struggling to engage, employ and retain young talent, at a time when the sector’s attrition rate and those choosing (or having) to leave full-time employment, is increasing.

Those between the ages of 16 and 25years are in the ‘unique’ position to become better ‘equipped’ for the new landscape of digitally enabled project delivery and help sustain the future and intrinsic competitiveness of the sector.

Whilst the current Labour government, which has promised to build upto 1.5million new homes during their tenure of leadership, entertains all manner of fiscal challenges, the fact remains that the governments’ investment in people, which has not been suitably addressed for decades; still presents a challenge that in many ways is not unique to the UK.

And, with reference to the entirety of the ‘available’ UK talent pool, the focus on those not in employment, education or training (historically referred to as NEET’s) should be given more a priority, but with new models of engagement; as confirmed by the latest Youth Voice Census.

Since I took up the role of Deputy CEO, one that I have relished and thrived in, I was absolutely and genuinely taken aback when Dr Bola, (our previous CEO) approached me following our most recent Board Meeting, last month.

At a time when we are about to embark upon a new chapter and international venture in the Middle East, I am not only humbled but incredibly excited to be offered the opportunity to lead this incredibly young organisation, whose vision and true capability is only just beginning to manifest.

Just last week, we had our very first micro-credential approved, the contents of which remains the brainchild of Dr Bola and remains an introduction to his wider body of work, now spanning well over three decades.

I want to thank all of our commercial and third sector partners, specifically pointing to the Executive Team at OCN London who have been absolutely fabulous in their support to us, from day one. Our comprehensive micro-credentials will provide a new ‘pathway’ for young people and others, whilst unlocking and deliver the kind of ‘sustainable’ social-impact that truly matters to me ......

Personally, I am determined to demonstrate that the much talked ‘levelling-up’ agenda, can succeed, in UK construction .....

Finally, I want to thank Dr Bola, whose faith and trust in me, has actually empowered me, and as he now takes up the ‘over-arching’ role as President of the DTSA; I have to thank him for entrusting me with this huge responsibility, and unique career opportunity. As the first Black woman to lead an #EdTech business ‘as a specialist provider of digital twins’ in the UK construction sector, I am deeply humbled .....
