Matterport prepare to ‘actively’ deliver Digital Construction!

They say that a picture speaks a thousand words; the following is an overarching account from invited ‘Guest Speaker’ of the day, our Founder and Chief Excitement Officer, Dr Bola Abisogun OBE _ enjoy the collage, captured throughout the day …… (mostly) in pictures.

It all began at the US Embassy on the 6th of March 2025, by way of a kind invitation to deliver a keynote for Matt Lacey, of Surveytech, a London based, Matterport partner firm.




 

The US Embassy event, which saw the ‘official’ launch of RSET, was comprehensively captured via the link below and included a planned speaking slot which was delivered effortlessly by the amazing Natalie Lamb, VP, International at Matterport.

 

 



 


The synergy between the mutual, yet separate perspectives was both established and recognised, inevitably, precipitateing a further ‘Guest Speaker’ invitation which was extended this time directly from Natalie, seeking the humble support of Dr Abisogun, at their annual Industry Insight Day, which took place last month on the 29th April 2025.





On both occasions, my ‘use-case’ for the deployment of digital twins _ through the lens of insurance, whilst focused on the tragedy of Grenfell and the 58 recommendations that have since been proffered following the final Phase 2 Report.

The contents of the final Phase 2 Report arising from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, as affirmed by Sir Martin Moore-Bick on the 4th September 2024 _ set the scene and new landscape of compliance, in light of the conclusive request from Dame Judith Hackitt.

Backdrop

Matterport LLC is an American 3D spatial mapping company headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. The company was founded in 2011 as a private startup and subsequently merged with a special-purpose acquisition company in 2021 to commence public trading on the Nasdaq.

 





 


The current CEO is R.J. Pittman. Matterport produces cameras used to capture images for 3D mapping of indoor spaces and the creation of digital twins. The company also provides various software as a service for real estate and property management.

 




 


On April 22, 2024, it was announced that Matterport would be acquired by the CoStar

Group for a cash and stock deal valued at approximately US$1.6 billion. The acquisition was completed on February 28, 2025 _ source Wikipedia [May 2025]

 




 



 

It was clear on the day, from all speakers, as per the agenda, but particularly that from RJ Pittman, who flew in for the USA; that Matterport are embarking upon a disruptively exciting journey, one that is infused by AI and truly cuts across real estate transactions, construction and post-occupancy maintenance; effectively digitising the whole-lifecycle.
