"As the founder & Chairman of DiverseCity Surveyors (established in Sept 2005), today we are an 'Honorary' Associate Member of the Construction Industry Council and a founding 'Council Member' of Diversitas, established June 2023. Since April 2023, we have evolved into our core 'not-for-profit' initiative, being the Digital Twin Skills Academy 'DTSA', and we remain committed and focussed on the diverse & culturally competent 'engagement, education & empowerment' of Young People (and aspiring #Surveyors). Our Mission is to 'educate, empower and equip' the sector to remain fluent in a 'new, data-driven' digitally enabled, built and managed environment. We are committed to and in support of better project delivery, in this post-#Grenfell era, of #BuildingSafetyAct 'legislative' compliance......."

So, the 129th CIC Council Meeting began, promptly at 1430 ...... with an informed presentation from the CLC, Co-Chair, Mark Reynolds, Group Chairman of 'global' contracting and consultancy giant, MACE

Crossing a number of areas in his presentation Mark, covered everything from 'historic' rhetoric, to 'current' day challenge(s), moving swiftly onto 'future' ambitions ......

Mark's presentation was immediately followed by another hugely interesting and very topical area: flood risk [strategically framed and positioned as a major insurance peril!] ...... Peter Bonfield OBE, the Vice Chancellor, University of Westminster, delivered a 'zero-tolerance, no non-sense, straight-talking' _ 'call-to-action' from the professions ......

Some 'key takeaways' _
(1) How can the property 'resist' water going in?
(2) How do you ensure that 'proposed' products for the remedial works are waterproof?
With 'a typical' remedial project often taking 6months, once permitted / approved to proceed by the Loss Adjuster(s), and with costs (on average) of upto £40k / per claim _ the competence of professionally qualified individuals, has never been more important.
And, at the Digital Twin Skills Academy - we are making the connection between ...
"competence - capability - deliverability - accountability - transparency" _ where 'data-driven' digital workflows (leading to 'operational' digital twins) have a clear role to play, for the dual benefit of both the Homeowner / Occupier and the Insurance Sector (think Golden Thread!)
However the insurance sector 'currently' works on the basis of:
Like for like replacement
Not using waterproof materials [as a baseline]
Business Models will have to change and evolve to accommodate more 'agile' data driven solutions ......... all of which sit at the core, of the DTSA offer ......

Digital Twins have a 'key' role to play in the reconstruction effort and future preservation of historic assets ...

An interesting 'open' conversation followed the informed presentation by the incoming Chair of CIC _ Ian Brant .... , and the paper, heavily influenced by the Professional Competence Task Force, was called:
Exceeding Expectations:
The Future of Built Environment Professional Bodies

Credit: Dr Bola Abisogun OBE
Context and Purpose
The paper set out the Construction Industry Council’s (CIC) collective position and proposed reforms to strengthen governance, competence, and public accountability across professional institutions in the built environment. It arises in direct response to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and subsequent failings in cladding safety, retrofit works, and housing quality.
