2nd Annual Digital Twin Summit, creates platform for DTSA!

Digital Twin Summit, UK _ October 2024

the ‘post-Grenfell’ reality and

delivering our ‘new’ duty-of-care in UK construction

the role of Gateway 3 / #GW3 ….. Dr Bola Abisogun OBE

The why: Inspired by those on the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) their Building

Safety workstream, recently published guidance on the golden thread of information

requirement(s) for higher-risk buildings. Issued exactly one week ahead of the ‘final /

CLC guidance note was designed to support dutyholders and accountable persons to

deliver a golden thread for their building.

The how: The purpose of the golden thread of information is to give the right people the

right information at the right time. It is the information that allows someone to

understand a building and the steps needed to keep both the building and people safe,

now and in the future. Notwithstanding, the guidance was developed by an industry

working group and sets out the golden thread of information that dutyholders and

accountable persons will need to generate, keep, maintain and handover during design,

through construction, handover and completion of the building and into occupation /

operation.

Summary: Within the findings of the final report, the Grenfell Inquiry makes some 58

recommendations which effectively set the scene for a complete ‘reset’ on the

industry’s ability to become more transparent, accountable and efficient, using good

information to achieve good information management outcomes. The industry must

seek to ensure that ‘smarter & greener’ buildings are safe for occupiers and residents to

use; the panel discussed what our ‘new’ duty of care, will look like through a ‘practical’

lens and specifically with reference to Gateway 3 outcomes / contract deliverables.
